A change in style for our Pinot Noir customers, the harvest in 2010 was very small and the berries themselves were tiny, about pea size. Usually this would result in a jammy high alcohol wine, characteristic of so many now that dominate the shelves of liquor stores.
Our intention has always been moderate alcohol levels of around 12.5, this one comes in at around 12.6.
This wine can be drunk now but does need serious decanting, 3-4 hours should suffice. If you like to cellar wine then this wine will reward you with layers of complexity as it ages. How long? 10 plus years seems a safe bet judging by past experience.
Normally we would leave the wine in barrel for longer but there is a trade off with fruit flavours. We have therefore bottled to keep those flavours and see them evolve over time.
