Vineyard Profile

Early pioneers of the wine industry in the Southwest of Western Australia, the Mountford family selected Pemberton for the unique flavour potential of wine grapes grown in this cooler, largely forested region of high winter rainfall. Trained horticulturist and wine lover Andrew was looking for a region as yet undiscovered in Australia.  Reasons for choosing the sight of the vineyard are a  combination of soil, climate, topography and of course most importantly the right feel!

Eighty acres of undulating country gave all the variability needed for this dream and a fifteen acre vineyard was planted.

Obvious cool climate conditions, amongst the coolest in WA were suitable for Andrew and Sue’s passion for the classic early ripening varieties; Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.  In this regions short history these varieties have proven more than any other  to be the correct selection.

Now one of the regions oldest vineyards true fruit intensity and complexity is starting to clearly show, this is due to careful vineyard practice ie; minimal spraying and since inception, continual sound environmental care.  The fruits integrity is maintained, enabling expression from vineyard to bottle ensuring all our wines retain their

“essence" of place.”
