Long before they started building , Andrew and Sue Mountford had a pretty
good idea of the kind of winery they wanted to establish. It should reflect their
traditional sense of values and sit comfortably within
its environment, of offering visitors to the winery a unique experience. It was their
eldest son who suggested incorporating a Gallery within the winery building.
Sue and Andrew needed no persuading adding a
mezzanine floor to the building to house exhibitions which they decided should feature
well established Western Australian artists. And so in 1994 Mountford Winery and Gallery was
officially opened with an exhibition by Sieglinde Battley.
